Safety When Painting

painting scaffoldWhether you are doing your own painting or employing reliable painters to paint your home for you, it is essential to be aware of safety issues. These range from fumes from cleaning and paint products to hazards that might cause an accident.

Of course, as professional painters, we take all necessary precautions to avoid any accidents. However, it is always a good idea for homeowners to be aware of potential issues.

Paint Fumes

We only use Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) paints with no odour and extremely low toxicity. The paints we use are produced by Taubmans and Dulux and have been approved by the National Asthma Council Australia's Sensitive Choice Program. Products approved by the Sensitive Choice program may help people with asthma and allergies.

Dulux paints are an Eco Choice Paint – which means they emit almost no paint smell and less pollution, so they are kinder to the environment and your family.

The only paint that may cause some odour is Gloss Enamel. We like to complete any gloss work in the mornings and allow it to dry with good ventilation. We also use a cut onion in a bowl of water to help absorb the smell, even though the odour is not harmful to children, pets or adults. We like to ensure that by evening when your family is ready to sleep -  all the smell will be gone.

Potential Hazards

All painters, including us, use ladders and sometimes scaffolding when we paint homes. Professional painters will always ensure that ladders and scaffolding are erected and used safely so that there is minimal chance of accidents. We appreciate the help that homeowners give us with making sure that floors and steps are free from anything that might make them slippery and keeping pets and small children out of the area we're working in.

Rest assured, the safety of your family, our team and your property is of utmost concern, and we make sure we adhere to all the workplace health and safety codes of practice.
