Due to the height of the property, we engaged Oldfields to erect scaffolding to create three working levels. This ensured the safety of the home’s residents and our staff, as well as fulfilling our QLD workplace health and safety obligations. Although this scaffolding is expensive, we saved the client money by bringing more team members (seven painters at once!) on site so we could return the scaffolding ASAP.
We maintain daily communication with Isobel throughout the project. Disruption was minimised as much as possible.
Before starting work, we placed drop cloths down to protect the property. We then used a 30-second commercial cleaner to remove grime, mould, and dirt. Then, we scraped back flaking paint and sealed the timber. We used Colourbond Woodland Grey and Dulux Vivid White before finishing with two coats of Dulux Weathershield low sheen. This protective top coat comes with a 10-year guarantee against peeling, flaking, and blistering.
Isobel also wanted us to stain her timber screen louvres and handrail. We suggested we paint them instead. In the direct sunlight, these timber areas would have required yearly maintenance, which can be costly. She agreed, and the results are not only cost-effective but also look great!
As for the public footpath issue, we used caution tape and wet paint signs. These kept the public safe.
