5 Reasons You Should Paint Before Moving In

moving houseIf you’re moving into a new house and looking to give the interior a refresh, you’re probably wondering whether to paint before or after moving in.

We always suggest you should paint before moving in. Here are the top five reasons why.

1. It’s Easier

Paint before moving in because it’s just so much easier. Moving heavy furniture, jumping over clutter, and taking down artworks make interior painting much more difficult than it needs to be.

Plus, once you move into your property, you’ll want to start unpacking. If you put off interior painting, you delay the whole process of making your new house a home.

2. It’s Healthier

Paint fumes aren’t good for us. One of the main benefits of painting the interior of your new home before moving in is you don’t have to live with toxic VOCs. These chemicals are unavoidable (even low/no VOC paints contain some level of toxicity), and can cause headaches and nausea. It sometimes takes about two weeks for VOCs to dissipate entirely, so if you have the time, paint in advance.

3. It’s Faster

If you don’t have to completely reconfigure the room and cover your belongings with protective sheets, interior painting happens much faster. Cleanup is quicker, too.

4. It’s Cheaper

This goes hand-in-hand with reason number 3. If the job gets done faster, the job gets done cheaper.

5. It’s Safer

If you decide to paint your home before moving all of your furniture in, you totally avoid the potential for paint spills or splatters. If you decide to DIY after moving in, flecks of paint are sure to find their way on to your prized possessions.
